Carrie joined the VSquad because her father, father-in-law and uncles were World War II veterans. She understands the sacrifices these men made for their country. “The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial will be a place that I can visit and feel a connection with all of these men that I have lost and I hope the same for others. It will also be great for education purposes for our youth.”

Carrie enjoys golfing with her husband and friends, travel, gardening and long walks with her dogs.

Victoria is a young investment professional with a passion for serving our veterans. She and her spouse, a West Point alum who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, reside in Grosse Pointe, Michigan with their toddler daughter and Bernese mountain dog. After connecting with board President Debi Hollis and Vice President Russell Levine and then attending the 2017 Victory Gala, Victoria was eager for the opportunity to help be a part of this amazing legacy to our nation’s heroes. She hopes to bolster awareness and participation in such a worthy cause among younger generations, by helping preserve the values and sacrifices of those who served before us and those who will be called to serve in the years to come.

When she is not at the office, Victoria enjoys skiing, running, and spending time with family. She also serves on the regional advisory board for Read to a Child, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving childhood literacy through lunchtime reading programs, mentoring and community support

Donna Hollis is a personal chef and culinary instructor. She hosted several fund-raisers for Honor Flight Michigan and served as a guardian on Honor Flight 31 in 2010. Since then, she has been an avid supporter The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial.

Donna also volunteers as chaperon for her church youth group’s annual mission trip to Mexicali, Mexico where she has been the mom-away-from-home for 20+ teens on 15 trips since 1999. In addition, she has been to New Orleans four times to help rebuild following Hurricane Katrina. Donna consistently makes times to help others in need and is proud to be a part of the The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial’s V-Squad.

In her spare time, Donna is an avid reader, enjoys travel, food and wine, exploring the gems of the city of Detroit, boating on her pontoon at her family’s cottage, and cheering on the Tigers, Red Wings and, yes, even the Lions.

Bev Kimbro has lived in the Detroit metropolitan area her entire life, the last 25 plus years in Farmington Hills. She is employed as the business manager of a heavy duty commercial truck dealership located in Livonia. Volunteering has always been a part of her life. Her involvement with the World War II veterans started in late summer 2007. She read about the project and applied to be an escort guardian on one of the flights. In April 2008 she flew on Flight 9. She was involved in fund raisers and “airport duty” to greet the vets on arrival at Metro and help them get through the check-in process. After the last flight, when the idea to build The Michigan World War II Legacy Memorial was suggested, she knew she wanted to continue working with these dedicated volunteers, and continue honoring our Michigan WWII veterans, and all those involved on the home front.

Marty is an optometrist and owned Northville Vision Clinic for over 40 years. Marty became interested in The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial after hearing a presentation by board member Al Muscovitz. He has always been interested in WWII veterans, as his father Harold was extremely proud of serving in the Army.

He is the author of the book “We Were Relentless, A Family’s Journey to Overcome Disability.” He is one of the founders of The Jordan Levin Childhood Obesity Foundation which works with overweight financially disadvantaged children to overcome their weight problems, through teaching exercise and proper nutrition.

Marty enjoys skiing, hockey, baseball, travel and reading.

Al’s strong affection for those who put their lives on hold and on the line to protect our freedom goes back to his childhood. In 2009, Al and his son were guardians on an Honor Flight 25, chaperoning WWII veterans from Michigan, at no charge, to see their memorial in Washington, D.C. He later served as a member of the board of The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial. His commitment to honoring our Greatest Generation continues today as a member of the V-Squad. Al’s responsibilities include community outreach to Detroit’s Jewish war veterans as well as being a public relations liaison to local corporations and the media.

To listeners of the Dick Purtan Radio Show in Detroit, Al Muskovitz was known as “Big Al Muskavito” where he was a writer, producer, performer, impersonator and character voice talent for 18 years. His last 14 years were spent at CBS radio station WOMC, until Dick’s retirement in 2010. Since leaving the airwaves Al has been freelance writing and acting for print, radio and television, as well as being sought after as an event emcee and speaker. Prior to his radio career Al owned an operated a full-service advertising agency for 18 years.

From the time that he was very young, John took a keen interest in his father James’s WWII service in the Army Air Corps. James Peters was a B-24 navigator with the 467th heavy bombardment group, stationed at Rackheath, England. In addition, three of James’s brothers served in WWII.

John joined the VSquad of The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial to publicly honor his father and his three uncles. Ironically, James Peters lived just three and one half miles from the future site of the memorial, passed just blocks away at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital and was given full military honors at his funeral also close by the future home of memorial. James was never far from the memorial, and John is excited to be part of the group dedicated to making it a reality – a place where his family members will have a permanent memorial to their service in WWII.

John is a resident of Rochester Hills, Michigan where he lives with his wife Donna and their three sons. John has been a practicing attorney in the State of Michigan for 36 years.

Bernie is retired from a long career at Michigan Consolidated Gas Company and its associated companies. He worked in the fields of Information Technology, Strategic Planning, the Corporate Secretary’s Office and Community Affairs. He has been interested in WWII for many years, especially the US Navy’s role on the Asiatic Front before and during the war. He maintains this interest in memory of his wife’s father who survived three and one-half years as a prisoner of war in Asia and Japan. Bernie became involved with The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial during the celebration of the 70th anniversary of VE Day in 2015. He gets great satisfaction from his involvement and always looks forward to participating.

As a Vietnam combat vet and past president of Honor Flight Michigan and member of the board of The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial, Rick Sage has been involved with our WWII heroes since being, “adopted,” by his Dad’s WWII reunion group many years ago. Rick has come to know and love this Greatest Generation. He wishes to fulfill his obligation to never forget what they and the hard-working people on the home front did for this great nation, by being instrumental in helping to build The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial. On the personal front, Rick enjoys ice hockey and volleyball in the winter, and camping, golf and backpacking with his wife Maureen in the summer and fall. God Bless America and our veterans!

Nate Strong has been involved with WWII veterans for over a decade. He has escorted several groups across their European battlefields, helped produce three WWII documentaries, and served with Honor Flight Michigan as a board member, guardian and photographer. His significant commitment in the early stages of The Michigan World War II Legacy Memorial helped shape the final design and he proudly continues to support the fund raising and construction efforts.
